Legal Professional

Attorneys have the opportunity to use their negotiation and problem-solving skills to help clients focus on what is most important to them and their families and to assist their clients to move forward in the best possible way.

Mental Health Professional

Mental health professionals work in a coaching role to support clients as they navigate the emotional journey of divorce. Coaches assist clients with communication skills and the management of conflict within the marital dynamic. Child specialists work in a neutral capacity on parenting issues and the needs of the children.

Financial Professional

Financial professionals work in a neutral capacity with both clients to gather financial information and help develop a financial plan that works for both spouses and their family.

Mental Health

    New York State licensed Mental Health Professional with professional liability insurance in good standing in one of the following:

    • M.D. – Medical Doctor – Psychiatrist
    • PhD – Doctor of Philosophy
    • Psy.D. – Doctorate of Psychology
    • LCSW – Licensed Clinical Social Worker
    • LMFT – Marriage and Family Therapist
    • LMHC – Licensed Mental Health Counselor

     

    • Completion of a 36-40 hour Mediation Training
    • Completion of a 3-day Interdisciplinary Collaborative Training
    • Agreement to sign and abide by NYACP Participation Agreement

     

    Demonstration via curriculum vitae of background, education and experience in:

    • Knowledge of families in transition and family systems theories
    • Knowledge of and expertise in the stages of family development including the unique challenges of diversified families and children with special needs
    • Experience with divorce-related issues and conflict resolution including but not limited to: psychotherapy, mediation, forensic evaluation and parenting coordinator
    • An understanding of crisis and impact on the family’s development with special focus on transitioning the family post-divorce

    $900 per year.

    Your information will be listed on our membership list and distributed to potential clients by other members. Members are listed on our website when they have completed the initial training requirements.

    • Open to practitioners who have less than the required five years of experience in family-related mental health practice
    • Associate members are offered mentors to assist each associate member make a plan which will enable them to acquire necessary experience.

    $400 per year.

    Associate membership is available until the requirements of professional membership have been satisfied (maximum of 4 consecutive years).

    Student members may be eligible for reduced fees for certain NYACP trainings and programs.

Financial

    • NYS licensed or certified professional (CFP, CPA) in good standing. Other New York State licensed Financial Professionals may submit their credentials and apply for membership on a case-by-case basis.

    • b. Cash management and spending plans
    • c. Retirement and pension plans
    • d. Income tax
    • e. Investments
    • f. Insurance
    • g. Property division
    • h. Individual and family financial planning concepts

     

    $900 per year.

    Your information will be listed on our membership list and distributed to potential clients by other members. Members are listed on our website when they have completed the initial training requirements.
