Helping Divorcing Women Reinvent Themselves During Covid and Beyond
Tuesday, November 10, 2020

In whatever stage of divorce, it’s both a tumultuous time and also a time for reflection. Covid has provided an even greater opportunity to ask - what are my values, what do I really care about (and willing to fight for) and why.

These questions are also at the core of a career reinvention. Whether laid off, physically displaced by Covid or re-entering the work world for the first time, women who are struggling to see what direction to take or what their value proposition might be, will find career reinvention invaluable when planning a divorce settlement. The first step is finding her narrative - how does she talk about her values, natural strengths, skills, interests, work and lifestyle in a cohesive way to share with a new contact or prospective employer? Those few sentences make the difference between a door opening or not. Simple conversations can get her started to move from a quagmire of divorce and onto feeling agency over a future career that suits who she is now.

Globally speaking, this could result in less burden on alimony payments and a more positive disposition to the couple's respective home lives.

Sheilah Crowley, NYU trained and ICF certified coach will walk through ways to help your clients reframe their self image as it relates to work, ask some guiding questions to remind clients of their assets. She’ll also take you through two exercises that will bring insight into your own value, and that you can share with clients to seed theirs.

Sheilah spent the first part of her career working in non-profit management – specifically on issues around food security. She served as an “intrapreneur” for over 12 years within City Harvest – the first and largest food rescue organization in the country based in New York City. She holds a BA in Anthropology from the University of Vermont, coaching certification from NYU, and is ICF Certified.  She volunteers her time as a prep chef at my local soup kitchen in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY, where she live with my husband and two children.
