Cross Cultural Issues - Helping Clients Find Their Voice

Learning Objectives (what you can expect to learn from the program):

  • To gain an understanding of issues raised by cross-cultural, multi-cultural and religious families involved in family and divorce disputes;
  • To learn techniques needed to navigate among these issues sensitively and help families develop compromises and agreements that will honor their cultural beliefs and yet be legally enforceable in the 21st Century legal system.
  • To develop tailored tools and checklist to help collaborative professionals better understand their clients’ cultural backgrounds, so that they can tailor unique solutions that address their clients’ needs.

Alla Roytberg Esq. is a lawyer, mediator and frequent lecturer with over 30 years of professional experience. After graduating from Fordham University School of Law in 1991 and practicing law at two law firms for five years, Ms. Roytberg started her own firm in 1996. Currently, the firm has two offices located in Manhattan and in Forest Hills, Queens.

Ms. Roytberg’s practice focuses on all aspects of family and matrimonial law, including representation, mediation, collaborative divorce and work on prenuptial and marital agreements. Her areas of concentration also include general mediation, residential real estate representation and ancillary general practice. Ms. Roytberg is fluent in the Russian language and frequently addresses the legal needs of the Russian Community in New York and of the Multi-Cultural and international community in Queens County, where she maintains her main office.

Ms. Roytberg is a member and past President of the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York, an Advanced Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and New York Association of Collaborative Practitioners, of the New Jersey Mediators Association and Pennsylvania Mediators Association. She is also a member of the Family Section and Dispute Resolution Section of the New York State Bar Association and has been a member of various Committees at the New York City Bar Association, including the Alternative Dispute Resolution, Matrimonial, Small Law Firm, and Professional Responsibility Committees, as well as the Task Force on New Lawyers in a Changing Profession at the New York City Bar Association. She is currently an active mediator member of the matrimonial panels in Kings, Queens, Richmond, New York and Westchester counties as well as various upstate court panels in New York State.

Bar Admissions:
Ms. Roytberg is admitted to the Bars of the States of New York and New Jersey and to the Supreme Court of the United States.
