    About my Practice

    Ms. Nicholson's practice is concentrated in the areas of family law, matrimonial law, collaborative practice, and family mediation. She also handles real estate transactions. She is a mediator for the Dispute Resolution Center in Carmel, New York where she is a legal presenter for €œParents Apart€ a parent education program certified by the New York State Parent Education and Awareness Program designed to help separating, divorced and never married parents focus on the special needs of their children during the restructuring of their families. She is a member of the Pace Women's Justice Center Moderate Means Matrimonial Panel and is certified to act as an attorney for children by the Appellate Division, Second Department. Ms. Nicholson is also a member of the Part 36 Panel of Fiduciaries qualified to accept appointments in the Supreme and Surrogate's Courts of Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties.

    Ms. Nicholson was a member of the Town of Somers Zoning Board of Appeals from 1990-2002. She is a member of the Westchester County Bar Association and has served as co-chair of its Pro Bono Committee since 2007. In 2007, she also served as co-chair of People Against Domestic Violence (PADV), a community organization in Carmel, NY devoted to providing support to victims of domestic violence.

    Ms. Nicholson opened her own practice in Somers, New York in 2007 and has an €œof counsel€ relationship with Schiavetti, Corgan, DiEdwards, Weinberg and Nicholson, a medical malpractice defense firm with offices in NYC and White Plains, NY.

    Prior to opening her own practice, Ms. Nicholson was a staff attorney at Legal Services of the Hudson Valley where she represented domestic violence victims in the family and supreme courts, assisting clients obtain orders of protection and advocating on their behalf in custody, visitation, child/spousal support and divorce proceedings.

    For many years, she was the author of €œYou and the Law€ a legal column published monthly in First Magazine, a national magazine focusing on women's issues. She also worked as an associate attorney for Helene M. Selznick, Esq., a matrimonial attorney in Somers, NY and volunteered in the legal center of My Sister's Place, an organization providing comprehensive shelter, advocacy, legal, and supportive services for victims of domestic violence in Westchester County, New York.

    Ms. Nicholson resides in Somers, New York, where she is a member of the Somers Chamber of Commerce, and the Somers Lions Club. She has been a long-time member and is a former vice-president of the Somers Historical Society where she sits on the Board of Trustees and Landmarks Committee. She has been married for 27 years and has three children.
