Membership Requirements & Applications
NYACP offers three types of membership for qualified legal, mental health and financial professionals: Professional Membership, which allows for all benefits, including a personal profile on this website; Associate Membership, open to those who have less than the requisite training and experience; and Student Membership.
Please carefully review the requirements before you apply for membership approval. If for any reason you are not approved, your membership dues payment will be refunded.
Member Dues Per Calendar Year (January - December Annually):
Professional: $595.00 Associate: $400.00 Student: $50.00
The NYACP membership year is from January through December. Annual memberships are due by January 1 each year. There is not a prorated credit if you join during the year.

If you do not currently have the required trainings to qualify for membership, following training organizations have been approved as resources to meet the requirements:
Basic Collaborative Interdisciplinary Training: Course must be 16-24 hours

Legal
Professional Membership
Your information will be listed on our membership list and distributed to potential clients by other members. Members are listed on our website when they have completed the initial training requirements.
- Member in good standing of the New York State Bar and carry liability insurance
- Five years of matrimonial/family law experience
- Completion of a 36-40 hour Mediation Training
- Completion of a minimum 2-day Basic Interdisciplinary Collaborative Training
- Agreement to sign and abide by NYACP Participation Agreement
Associate Membership
Open to practitioners who have less than the required five years of experience in matrimonial/family law. Associate members are offered mentors to assist each associate member make a plan which will enable them to acquire necessary experience. The Associate membership is available only until the requirements of professional membership have been satisfied (maximum of 4 consecutive years). If a practitioner meets the criteria to be a full member, the associate membership will not be applicable.
Student Membership
Open to law students. Student members may be eligible for reduced fees for certain NYACP trainings and programs.
Mental Health

Your information will be listed on our membership list and distributed to potential clients by other members. Members are listed on our website when they have completed the initial training requirements.
New York State licensed Mental Health Professional with professional liability insurance in good standing in one of the following:
- M.D. – Medical Doctor – Psychiatrist
- PhD – Doctor of Philosophy
- Psy.D. – Doctorate of Psychology
- LCSW – Licensed Clinical Social Worker
- LMFT – Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
- LMHC – Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Demonstration via curriculum vitae of background, education and experience for at least 5 years in:
- Knowledge of families in transition and family systems theories
- Knowledge of and expertise in the stages of family development including the unique challenges of diversified families and children with special needs
- Experience with divorce-related issues and conflict resolution including but not limited to: psychotherapy, mediation, forensic evaluation and parenting coordinator
- An understanding of crisis and impact on the family’s development with special focus on transitioning the family post-divorce
- Completion of a 36-40 hour Mediation Training
- Completion of a minimum 2-day Basic Interdisciplinary Collaborative Training
- Agreement to sign and abide by NYACP Participation Agreement
Associate Membership
Open to practitioners who have less than the required five years of experience in family-related mental health practice. Associate members are offered mentors to assist each associate member make a plan which will enable them to acquire necessary experience. Associate membership is only available until the requirements of professional membership have been satisfied (maximum of 4 consecutive years). Student Membership
Open to mental health professionals in training. Student members may be eligible for reduced fees for certain NYACP trainings and programs.
Financial

- Licensed CPA or certified CFP in good standing. Financial professionals may submit other credentials or licenses and apply for membership on a case-by-case basis.
- Completion of a 36-40 hour Mediation Training
- Completion of a minimum 2-day Basic Interdisciplinary Collaborative Training
- Agreement to sign and abide by NYACP Participation Agreement
Demonstration via curriculum vitae of background, education and experience for at least 5 years in:
- Financial aspects of divorce
- Cash management and spending plan
- Retirement and pension plans
- Income tax
- Investments
- Insurance
- Property division
- Individual and family financial planning concepts
Associate Membership
Open to practitioners who have less than the required five years of experience in family-related financial practice. Associate members are offered mentors to assist each associate member make a plan which will enable them to acquire necessary experience. Associate membership is only available until the requirements of professional membership have been satisfied (maximum of 4 consecutive years). If a practitioner meets the criteria to be a full member, the associate membership will not be applicable.

Student Membership
