AN INFORMAL ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION:
PRACTICAL TIPS FOR GETTING THE MOST OUT OF NEW CLIENT INTAKES

Wednesday, February 15, 2023
9:00am-10:00am

Share practical tips with colleagues about what works and what doesn’t when meeting clients for the first time.

The initial intake is often the most important interaction we have with clients. How do you prepare? How do you set yourself up for success from day one? Come prepared to share the tools you use to develop rapport and gain an understanding of client goals in choosing process.

What paperwork do you provide at the initial consultation? Learn how others craft intake sheets and at what point they share forms, names of potential team members and outlines of substantive information.

Do you charge for an initial consultation? Is the meeting limited to process? How are some more successful at getting clients to buy into the collaborative process and sign a retainer.

What types of questions can impede success at this early stage and/or cause clients to fear moving forward?

What type of follow up do you employ after the initial meeting?

JOIN US FOR AN INTERACTIVE AND INFORMATIVE DISCUSSION ON Wednesday FEBRUARY 15TH from 9 to 10AM facilitated by Margaret Nicholson, Esq.

Margaret A. Nicholson, Esq.

Margaret A. Nicholson is a matrimonial and family law attorney with a practice located in Somers, NY. In addition to her practice’s family law focus, she also provides representation to clients in real estate transactions and guardianship matters.

Ms. Nicholson attended the State University of NY at Albany and graduated from St. John’s University School of Law. She was admitted to the bar in 1984. Ms. Nicholson is a member of the Westchester and Putnam County panels of Attorneys for Children and regularly accepts appointments from the courts to represent children in custody, visitation and divorce proceedings. She is experienced in resolving disputes through litigation, collaborative divorce and mediation. As a result of her trainings and experience in these areas, Ms. Nicholson recognized the need for a non-adversarial approach to dissolving a marriage. Especially where children are involved, she believes that families need an approach that is tailored to their individual interests and is sensitive to their needs. Her commitment to providing an alternative framework for settlement has resulted in Collaborative Divorce and Mediation becoming a primary focus of her practice.

Ms. Nicholson is a member of the Westchester County Bar Association, Putnam County Bar Association and Westchester Women’s Bar Association. She is also a member of the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals, Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York and New York State Council on Divorce Mediation. She previously served as a legal presenter for “Parents Apart”, a program certified by the NYS Parent Education and Awareness Program designed to help separating and divorced parents focus on the needs of their children during the restructuring of their families. She is a member of the Pace Women’s Justice Center Moderate Means Matrimonial Panel and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Putnam County Legal Aid Society.
