TAXES and DIVORCE

This program will cover the various tax impacts that divorce professionals should consider when working with their clients and creating marital separation agreements.  Topics to be discussed include real property, retirement/pension plans, investments, business interests, spousal/child support, filing status, dependency claims, survivorship options, and tax incentives/credits.  Takeaways: What tax issues to know about so that your divorcing families avoid future negative consequences.   

BIO
Sallie Mullins Thompson is a CPA financial planner, CFP, Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA), and tax strategist, with over 2 decades of experience in the financial services profession. Sallie assists families, business owners, and individuals, in the NYC and Washington, DC metropolitan areas, with all elements of their financial lives – from tax to investments to savings to planning to life transitions She has a special interest in women who are navigating the divorce process. A major focus for Sallie is to educate and support people with their money concerns so they can live life the way they want. Since taxes are the biggest drag on everyone having the money they need, she quantifies all tax ramifications for financial decision-making. Thus, working with Sallie can result in ending up with more cash, less taxes to pay, and additional disposable income for major purchases, retirement, and legacies. On a personal level, Sallie is the doting grandmother of her two beautiful grandchildren – she lives in the West Village with her husband and two adorable cats.

DIVORCE PROFILE
As a CPA financial planner, CFP, and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA), Sallie Mullins Thompson handles the money end of divorce – before, during, and after. She assists families in navigating divorce by drawing a road map for them; evaluates budgets, income, what’s owned, and what’s owed; prepares long-term financial projections; and focuses on both parties ending up with enough money to live. Due to her background as a CPA, Sallie understands the tax threats that can derail marital separation agreements. She has had her financial services practice for 25+ years and is trained in the Collaborative Divorce process as well as in Mediation.
